Starting his career in the late 90s, Joe quickly gained attention for his innovative use of technology in electronic music. He integrates gamepads as MIDI controllers during live performances, offering a unique, real-time manipulation of sounds.
He is skilled in software like Puredata, MaxMSP, and mod trackers, which he uses to create intricate, non-traditional soundscapes. His music is inspired by nature, featuring field recordings, and influenced by the rave and techno scenes of the 90s and 2000s.
Protman also runs the “Iron Chef of Music” remix contest, where participants have two hours to create music from unconventional samples. Additionally, he was a member of the Chicago-based band K-RAD, known for combining electronic music with live instrumentation and energetic performances.
